DSL Tools May CTP on VS 2005 B2 on Vista B1
I am trying to survive with Vista B1 in my daily life. So, I needed to install the May CTP version of the DSL Tools which requires Visual Studio 2005 SDK (Previously VSIP). I had a few issues trying to set it up:
- The download page at http://www.vsipdev.com/downloads/vssdk2005beta2.aspx seems to throw an exception "Input string was not in a correct format" with IE 7 (default in Vista B1). Workaround: use a downlevel browser such as IE 6 on another machine or install a third-party browser.
- Once downloaded, the setup seems to be a bit complicated. Running setup.exe says that "The loader could not read the initialization file '....setup.ini'" although I can open it interactively just fine.
- Running vs_setup.msi in the same directory threw an error that there's another setup already running and that it cannot proceed until they are finished. I guess my previous attempts were still somhow executing, who knows. Logging off and back on resolved that and I could successfully install VS SDK.
After that the DSL Tools May CTP itself installed just fine.
