Wired remote release for Canon EOS 350D

I spent a couple of evenings last week to build my own remote release for my new camera. After purchasing a tripod (SLIK Pro 500DX) I noticed that while I can get steady shots with long exposure times by using the camera's timer release, it is much more convenient to use a remote release. And with a proper release I can even get unlimited (bulb) exposures that I cannot get with the timer.

So, after a bit of searching I found this, and after a quick stop at a local electronics store I had all the parts I needed for the job (a couple of pushbutton switches, a rocker switch and a plastic box). I also dug out my 15-year old soldering iron (unused almost all of that time). I also bought a 2.5mm stereo audio plug (350D has that kind of connector), but I soon realized that my tools were much too big for soldering anything that is that small (it is really really small!). So, luckily I found a pair of earphones with 2.5mm plug that I probably had got at TechEd or similar event. So, I got rid of the earphones and put the plug and most of the wire into use :)

This is the end result:

Although it is not terribly small it is quite adequately sized for my hands and I am quite satisfied with it. And with the rocker switch I can now have infinite exposure times very easily if I want!
