Access 2007 Developer Extensions and Runtime - Still On The Way

Published 26 March 07 10:27 AM

We’ve been getting a lot of questions about this, so I want to let you all know the status of our 2007 Access Developer Extensions (ADE) project. As we posted before, the Access 2007 runtime is going to ship with the ADE, and redistribution of the runtime will be free for those of you who build runtime solutions. We have been slowed down a little be some source management / build issues on this project that came from the way it was set up.  We’re getting through those issues and are nearly done with this project.  We fully expect to get it posted to the Internet before the start of summer. We know you’re waiting to get your hands on this stuff, and we’re moving on it as quickly as we can. We want to be sure that what we deliver is the right product and are working through the last bits of getting it built and tested.  We're very happy to hear of the demand for the products and are working hard to get them ready and shipped.  Thanks!

Any idea when the new extensions will be complete?  I would really like to upgrade our products to Access 2007 but, without the runtime, we can't move forward.  I would even be interested in being a Beta Site.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Is there a feature set available for us to see what is not included in the runtime, not the [packager but things like Filter By Form, shortcut menus etc?

I have run into some issues with ribbon behavior when I launch with /runtime. For example, I made a custom ribbon (start from scratch="true") and put the standard ViewFormView and ViewDatasheet view as separate buttons, set the startup form to have both modes available. The ViewFormView button is not visible at all but the ViewDatasheetView button is fine. When launched without /runtime both buttons work great. If I force ViewFormView button to be visible="true" then it does work.

Erik,

With the delay in getting the runtime version available it means that some people who have been using the Office 2007 Trial version will find their package runs out before the runtime is available, even assuming the June target is met. Will an expired trial version of Access 2007 be able to do anything with existing databases, e.g. use them read-only, please? I would hope it would as that was what the unactivated version of the trial version did.

I too would be very interested in trying out the Beta of the runtime if you need any testers (mentioned that to Clint a short while back).

Thanks so lot for your candid information about the actual state. Me too, I'm very expectant to get the runtime!

I’m very interested in being recruter as a Beta Tester.   Is that possible?  I describe me as a MS Access Project & MS SQL Server serious developer.
