Mary Jo Foley writes about SharePoint

There is a good article by Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley about SharePoint from a Microsoft’s business perspective. Some key points worth highlighting:

  • SharePoint is the fastest growing server product at Microsoft contributing over $1 billion in revenue.
  • There are approximately 40 teams and thousands of people that contribute to the product.
  • The SharePoint conference in Las Vegas next week is sold out with more than 7,000 attendees.
  • Elop talks about SharePoint as a developer platform that integrates with other back-end systems and business applications.

Mary Jo has plans over the next few days to publish a series of posts about what makes the product tick. I look forward to reading what she has to say.

I'm have been trying to learn a little more about how to use SharePoint, especially in conjunction with Access but I have yet to have that "Aha !" moment.....

I just started working for a company in April that uses Sharepoint and we do have a site but all I seem to do is post weekly reports out there.  I know I can post Access data to Sharepoint lists and link from SharePoint lists back to Access but I hear (correct me if I'm wrong) that performance is mediocre at best with anything beyond a few thousand rows ?

...and as to those "annoying Access databases...", if you thing they're annoying you should see some of the disasters I've come across when whole departments have no one with any Access experience and everything is kept in Excel spreadsheets with no rhyme or reason.
