Who loves start.com? Introducing live.com

Today, Bill Gates and Ray Ozzie announced a new strategy for Microsoft into the service space. Leveraging the technology from start.com, today, we introduce:

I've been to the internal meetings about this and there's a lot more coming down the pipes in the future. What you see today is really only the tip of the iceberg. Sure there isn't that much on there now. So if you want more gadgets to stick on your page, visit here : http://microsoftgadgets.com/. I added the virtual earth one to my live.com page. You could even write your own gadgets. Have fun.

The thing that irks me the most with AJAX-based sites like these is that the back button never works right. I just tried out live.com and yep, same story there: pressing back doesn't take me back one step but instead takes me back to the main live.com page.

Unfortunately I'm not sure that there's anything that can be done about it. But it sure is inconvenient to have to remember not to use the back button but to manually click wherever you need to go.

(It'll be even more confusing in Vista, since back/forward buttons are *everywhere* and are part of the new Vista UX guidelines...)
