This flight with North West Airways was just perfect

As I was telling in a post a couple of days ago, I needed to go to Seattle (where I am now as I write those lines). My travel agency chose for KLM to go from Brussels to Seattle with a stop in Amsterdam.

KLM uses a flight operated by North West Airways to go from Amsterdam to Seattle. This is actually a perfect choice.

The plane was brand new, seats were comfortable (I was in economy though), service was good as well and, last but not least, an amazing entertainment system:

  • A list of 20+ movies to choose from (ex: 16 blocks; Take the lead; etc)
  • A similar choice for music albums
  • 6-7 cartoons (ex: Ice Age 2) for the kids
  • 10+ games
  • dynamic maps
  • ...

all of that for each and every passenger individually. I wish they could have had Wi-Fi... ;-)

I've been impressed and I strongly recommend that combination.

Now, I'm gonna let you because I need to prepare my week here in Seattle. For those who want to give me a ring, I'm at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue...

And you have Linux to thank for it! Seems you don't know that that in-flight entertainment system run on Linux.

I also take that NWA flight from Amsterdam to some US hub, and wanted to emphasize another unexpected bonus... a full power outlet under each seat!  No adapter required, just plug your laptop in and work for as many hours as you want on the 7-8 hour flight.  Business class is cheaper than other airlines (like $3500 instead of $5000) but I find coach to be pretty durn comfortable, especially in one of the four aisle seats.  The Airbus 300 used on this overseas flight is excellent for business travelers.

Ahhhh, ... I did not want to say it to let you do it Chris! ;-)
Technologies, whatever they are, can achieve amazing things. I'm a strong believer in new technologies.
Those who have done it have done a beautiful job and the technology did support them appropriately.
