Anandi’s Thoughts

Random stuff (mostly) about working as a Program Manager at Microsoft
Only 2 more weeks

until nominations close for the MSS v2.0 TAP program! Use the Contact link to let me know if you need a nomination form.

I'm very pleased with the response we've gotten for our TAP Program.  We're now up to 36 nominations.  And still anticipate a few more from companies who have let us know they're interested.  That's really great.  I'm looking forward to working with a great group and really increasing the customer feedback into our team.  And our team is really excited about the program.  I asked for volunteers to be on the selection committee to review the nominations, and now I have about 10 people on that committee.  The last meeting was really productive.  We have another (2 hour!) one today and I hope it goes as well.

It's performance review time here at Microsoft.  Being a fairly modest person, it makes me uncomfortable to write details of the "wonderful, amazing" work I've been doing over the past year.  I feel like my work should speak for itself.  But I read somewhere that a lot of women feel this way and it hurts them in the workplace.  That we should be more self-promoting.  Ugh.  I guess I'll just have to try harder.  I just don't want to cross over that fine line to "arrogance" or worse, one of those people that talks a big game but doesn't deliver.

I'm new to the Speech Server team and I noticed they do things a little differently than my previous groups.  Part of the review process is setting goals/commitments for the upcoming year.  In my old groups, sometimes my manager would send around *his* commitments early so that you'd know what he was planning to do, and could make sure your goals align with his.  But in Speech Server, it goes even deeper than that.  Everyone in my management chain from the VP on down has sent out their goals for 2006.   And even for the GM three levels up from me, a strong TAP and Beta program is mentioned as one of his goals.  Which is very cool.  I have concrete evidence that what I'm working on is key to our group's success.  Which is something I always hope for, but it's nice to see it in black and white like that.

Well, back to the business of TAP.  Oh, and I got my first comment on the previous post.  Yay!  Thanks Ryan!

Well if a comment is all it takes to make you happy :-)

I like the blog too, it's been useful in following the TAP review process since we are excited about participating.

BTW, when are you going to post some honeymoon pictures?
