Ravings of a Developer TS

I have been with Microsoft as part of their Develop Platform and Evangelism team since July of 2006. As I go about my day to day, I often stumble across things I want to share out with the community. This is my soap box. I am based out of the Midwest District, so please don't be offended if you see most of the events I post being in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. If you are ever curious if the event will be in a city near you, just ask :)

I keep hearing: "OK, seriously, where can I get my hands on VS 2008?"

Since VS 2008 shipped a little over a week ago, we have gotten a lot of questions about where you can find it.  Well, here is a quick summary of all the ways to get your hands on it (especially if you could not get into any of the VS2008 Holiday parties in your area)::

  • If you are a MSDN subscriber, you can download your copy from the MSDN subscription site (note: some of the builds are just finishing being uploaded now - so check back later during the day if you don't see it yet).
  • If you are a non-MSDN subscriber, you can download a 90-day free trial edition of Visual Studio 2008 Team Suite here.  A 90-day trial edition of Visual Studio 2008 Professional (which will be a slightly smaller download) will be available next week.  A 90-day free trial edition of Team Foundation Server can also be downloaded here.
  • If you want to use the free Visual Studio 2008 Express editions (which are much smaller and totally free), you can download them here
  • If you want to just install the .NET Framework 3.5 runtime, you can download it here.

On another note, I have been really bad lately about posting regularly so now that it is out I will try to make a better effort to post about some of the new features.  Oh, and if you live in the Indianapolis area, check out their SIG topic tonight on creating builds with TFS: http://indytfs.org/sig/
