Easily link to a blog with the Messenger Presence for the Author : Using Windows Live Writer
I blogged about adding messenger presence to blog cross posts before and thought there must be an easier way.
I issued the challenge to ScottIsAFool
(aka Scott Lovegrove) and he came through with the goods. His directions for doing this via Windows Live Writer:
- This could be done with a plugin that currently exists called the dynamic template plugin.
- All you would have to do (once you've installed the template) is put in the person's name and their CID.
- Download and install the DT plugin from http://www.codeplex.com/wlwtemplate/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=7199
- then once installed, save the template from here and double click it in Explorer (this will add it to your list of templates),
- then in writer, select dynamic template,
- choose Messenger Presence and click continue,
- then put in the details (the url is not needed and if none put in, no link is created), and you're good to go :)
Thanks ScottIsAFool
Now How did I add his presence?
- Get his presence ID and copy it into your clipboard (CTRL+C)
- Open live writer & select Insert Template
- Paste in the ID, blog URL & name then hit OK and the presence will be inserted.

UPDATE: If you had downloaded the template please re-download it.
