Oracle Internet Directory and Active Directory Interoperability

We have outlined step by step procedures for setting up the Directory Integration and Provisioning (DIP) component to synchronize LDAP user accounts from MS Active Directory to Oracle Internet Directory. DIP consists of a synchronization profile, which tells OID how to connect and synchronize with the third-party directory, and a server process which actually performs the integration. The lab walks through the following: • Configure a synchronization profile which points to our AD server by using the dipassistant utility • Activating the synchronization profile in OID • Starting an instance of odisrv, the directory integration and replication process, using the oidctl command-line utility.

Siebel on SQL Server 2005 Whitepaper

Siebel eBusiness can gain dramatic improvements in performance on SQL Server 2005. The Siebel PSPP benchmarks were performed on SQL Server 2005 and illustrate the high level of scalability that can be achieved on mainstream 64 bit hardware. Global Deployments of Siebel on SQL Server

Most Siebel Customers plan to expand out their Siebel Implementation to multiple geographies. Some customers consolidate many separate Siebel instances into one - for ease of manageability and administration. There are some things you need to know before you plan a global implementation - e.g. how will  your application behave while searching and sorting for special  characters in some languages, how do you compile your SRF, collation and sort order. The following is a great presentation on the topic.

Optimizing Siebel on the Microsoft Platform

The Siebel Alliance Team at Microsoft has hosted several technical workshops over the last 3 years. Thse workshops aim to share leading practices for optimizing your Siebel deployments on the Microsoft Platform. One of the most useful presentation has been where we discuss how Siebel Web Servers, Application Servers and Database Server on Microsoft platform can be optimized for scalability, high availability and performance. Below is a link to a great  presentation that every Siebel customer should review.

Siebel Applications and Microsoft Office Integration

The last mile problem is dominant in CRM applications today - a complex enterprise system is built to enable management to get better insight into the transactions that their employees are having with customers. However employees and users want the flexibility to capture customer interactions in their choice of applications - whether that application is a desktop application or a CRM system. There is a weatlh of rich customer interaction related information in desktop applications like Microsoft Office - Email, Word, Excel. These applications serve as digital dashboards for most employees.

Siebel has started to address this dichotomoy of needs with two products available in Siebel 7.7/7.8. The first of these is Siebel Synchronization with Microsoft Exchange Server (S3E). A product demo an more information about S3E can be obtained @www.microsoft-oracle.com

Siebel Collaboration is another product shipping in Siebel 7.8. Built on Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003, Siebel Collaboration extends Siebel beyond the traditional user - employees can form virtual teams to collaborate on an opportunity, marketing campaign, service request with the help of SharePoint. Presence, Discussion Threads, Instant Messaging, Document and Knowledge Management are key features of Siebel Collaboration. A demo can be on this product also on the website above..

At Siebel Customer World in Boston last week, Bruce Cleveland, SVP of Siebel Products said that Office Integration will become even more important in the next generation of Siebel Applications - Siebel Component Assembly. "Over time, all of our solutions sets will be offered on all platforms," Cleveland said. In describing the company's user-interface plans, he commented, "We're going to integrate the user interface so tightly with Microsoft Office that Microsoft Office can actually serve as the primary interface for any user".

Siebel 7.7 Benchmarks on SQL Server 2005

At Siebel Customer World 2005 held in Boston last week, two new record breaking Siebel Platform Sizing and Performance Benchmarks (PSPP)  were announced. The world record for Siebel Scalability is now the 30,000 Siebel Concurrent User Benchmark on SQL Server 2005. This is an amazing performance benchmark with real world Siebel workloads that is done on a 16 X HP Integrirty 8620 machine with 64 GB of RAM. SQL Server 2005 Non Uniform Memory Access (NUMA) and connection affinity features maximised the performance and scalability of the HP Integrity rx8630 database server. Read the full bencmhark  results and get information on how it was done

Another benchmark that really shows how much performance you can get out of price today is the Siebel PSPP 20,000 concurrent user benchmark. This benchmark was done on 4x HP DL585 with 2.2 GHz Dual Core AMD Opteron processors with 32 GB of RAM. This result was amazing if you compare to the price of hardware for the other bencharks Siebel has certified in this class.

SQL Server 2005 will change the game of enterprise applications by providing unprecedented scalability at the lowest cost of ownership.
