Microsoft platform in Gartner's leader quadrant

On April 24th, Gartner released its Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Servers (EAS), 2Q08, which is authored by analysts Yefim Natis, Massimo Pezzini, Kimihiko Iijima, and Raffaella Favata. Gartner defines an application server as “system software that acts as a container for applications’  business logic.” The leading IT analyst firm evaluated 32 solutions from 29 vendors in the market assessment, each delivering platform middleware capable of implementing a programming model usable by application programmers. Gartner concluded Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, BEA and Red Hat are market leaders. Microsoft successfully achieved its stretch goal of moving from its previous “barely leader and trailing” market position to the new market position as differentiated market leader, gaining full parity (in Gartner’s eyes) with IBM (DTP), Oracle, and BEA (DTP) in the Enterprise Application Server Market.
