It is 9 o'clock - do you know where your DCOM is?

Last night I started getting calls last night from friends whose computers were infected by the Blaster worm.  It ain't fun!  If you haven't patched your OS yet, now is a good time...  By late evening yesterday a friend's NT4 box was being probed (port 135) about 6 times a minute. Each time it happened his system crashed, so he wasn't getting much work done.

And if you are already infected, you can get a removal tool from http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html.

[Updated]   Just a tip for those of you who are getting hit a lot and having your box rebooted before you can install the patch: To stop those pesky reboots try “shutdown /a“ to abort the shutdown.

My dad's been hit too. Hopefully he can install the patch himself, otherwise I'm in for a couple hour drive to help him out.

Ah, the life of a son.
