Q: What are some common setup mistakes?

A: Here are some of the common mistakes people make when trying to install Team Foundation Server that result in failed installations:

  • Failing to read the Installation Guide. The Installation Guide contains information that is needed to successfully install Team Foundation.
  • Failing to install Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) using the prescribed settings in the Installation Guide. Team Foundation uses specific settings that are included in the Installation Guide.
  • Installing everything on one computer. This release is tested for a three-computer deployment, one computer per logical tier (client tier, application tier and database tier), as noted in the Installation Guide.
  • Attempting to install on Windows Server 2000. Team Foundation requires Windows Server 2003 due to feature dependencies on IIS 6.0 and Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, as noted in the Installation Guide.

Applicability: Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1 Refresh with Visual Studio 2005 Team System
