Youtube on the Loudness War

Larry pointed me to a really cool video that graphically and audibly demonstrates the effect of the Loudness War, and what happens to samples under excessive clipping.

So he starts talking, I turn it up, then I turn it way down when he plays the "loudened" version, and then back up again when that's over.  This made the "you own the volume knob" thing have a bit more impact.

The other day my brother (I think it was my brother) sent me a reggae track, and it actually hurt to listen to.  It was the first time I had heard something mixed so badly that I had to turn it off.
