Please join me in congratulating all the Imagine Cup Teams from Belgium going to the Worldwide Finals in Sydney!

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Imagine Cup with 1.65 million students from 190 countries participating in the competition during the past decade.  The Imagine Cup has a heritage of spurring entrepreneurial passion and innovative thinking.

After 4 months of hard work and dedication, we can be proud on the performance of the Belgian teams. With 2 finalists on 106 remaining teams from 75 different countries, we are again amongst the best performing countries in Imagine Cup 2012.

Join me in wishing them all the best and let’s cross fingers that they return the medal from Down Under!

Make A Sign – Imagine you could not hear or speak? Social interaction would all of a sudden become much more complex. 3 students from Haute Ecole Provinciale Liege (HEPL) have developed an application based on Kinect technology to construct a sign database for all languages, and learn in a very convenient and fun way how to communicate correctly.

Statistics

In total 106 teams, representing 75 different countries will be participating in the WW Finals.

Only 6 countries have more teams in WW finals than Belgium: Brazil: 5, France/Romania: 4, Egypt/Japan/Korea/Ukraine : 3

It is the 5th year in row that “game design” from Howest reaches the WW Finals – an outstanding performance, never seen before at Imagine Cup

It is the first year that we have exactly 1 French and 1 Dutch speaking team in competition.

Although Belgium used to select best software design team locally, they passed this year successfully the online competition.
