Last week Microsoft released an new tool for building Visual Studio Packages for new toolwindows and commands in the Visual Studio IDE.  This is a new approach to building extensions that helps you incrementally create your extension adding new menus, commands, and packages with toolwindows as you go.  The existing project templates in the VS SDK force you to create a new assembly with each package you add which makes creating a more complex multi-package extension impossible.  The VSPackage Builder starts to address this by generating the plumbing code and removing the requirement of one assembly per package that comes form the VS SDK templates.

You can read more about the VSPackage Builder in James Bartlett’s post on the Visual Studio blog here.  Please share your feedback on this new approach to building extensions and ideas of how we can improve it in the future.
