To continue on the theme of studying the user behavior of the people of China, I want to link to this nifty piece of research (3.3mb PDF) done by some of the folks here at MSRA ACID group.  Trying to understand the frame of mind and social context of China's rural and/or migrant poor is quite a task indeed.  Even many of the Chinese in Beijing who are urban, college educated and in many ways technologically sophisticated find it difficult to relate with and understand the huge population of rural and migrant workers.

Speaking and meeting many of these migrant workers who come into the city for jobs, one can get a sampling of just how large and diverse China really is. Most of perspectives in the media of the new China is urban, professional and educated. In terms of sheer numbers, that group is really a very small percentage of the population.
