I had similar experience last week too - my flight got detoured to Halifax to drop off some passengers that had gotten stranded the night before in SJ. I could have tolerated that (kinda) but we ended up then getting stuck on the runway in Hali for an hour. No wireless on runway. :(

CanJet, WestJet, JetsCo are viable options.

By the way, I just fly from Halifax to Toronto and had a two hour delay due to Weather. They delayed boarding for 1 hour and then boarded us. The pilot then came on to inform us that Traffic had delayed him a further hour. Then the pursor told us that they would start the movie right there and open the bar (which they did). They were on the intercom every 5 min explaining any changes and after we got in the air letting us know of connecting flights. They apologised many times including on exit. I thought they provided excelent service by keeping us informed. I know they didn't use to be like that.

By the way. Halifax airport also has free wireless by Aliant.

You're quite right about Air Canada's unsympathetic stance towards its own tardiness. I've noticed that in the past. Air port delays are common, but I've never thought it would be too much to ask for at least a half-hearted apology for it, following the announcement of yet another delay. But, if you're in Canada what other options do you really have to fly?!
