I was fortunate enough to be invited to guest blog twice in August. Those may have been among my best posts for the month. First I did a first day of school post for the CSTA blog - Setting the Tone for the School Year. My wife is seeing students for the first time this year today. Several of my neighbors were sending their children off for their first day of school (one to second grade and one to kindergarten) this morning so that one is on my mind.
The second guest post was for EduBlogger Event 2008 which was a sort of one day online conference. talking about being in good company. Other participants included some of my favorite education bloggers like Vicki Davis aka Cool Cat Teacher whole post was Throw Down the Gauntlet: Break the Chains of Bad Practice and Jeff Utecht (The Thinking Stick) writing about The Wacky Ways of the Wiki. My post was called Going where the students are. There were a number of comments there and I tried to address some of what people brought up in followup comments of my own.
On this blog, the top traffic was probably The Language is NOT the Important thing which was about the need to focus on how things are taught more than a specific programming language.
There was a lot of interest in the new web development curriculum that Pat Phillips wrote about. See I even had someone guest blog for me this month.
There wasn’t a lot of discussion in the comments in August. I’m not sure what to make of that but I do know that a lot of teachers were hard at work getting ready for and starting school in August. Hopefully we can get some conversations going in September. Also I have started using some new tracking software in hopes that it will give me a better idea of what people are interested in. Though of course I welcome suggestions from real people as well.
