It&#39;s not controversial, of course, and yet I mention it because it&#39;s one of the most common misconceptions that non-computer people have about the field. (As you pointed out elsewhere, you can find online courses that claim to teach computer science, but it&#39;s really just programming--sometimes in just one language.) A little bit more controversial is whether programmers really need computer science to do their work.
