Competitive Athletes and Colossal Failures

imageHaving grown up with IDL (both CORBA and COM), I find myself desperately challenged when it comes to all things "User Experience". To me, it has always been about slick user interfaces. Not so, says Bill Buxton. I count myself lucky to have stumbled on this gem of an interview on Channel9. Mr. Buxton discusses some mind expanding concepts around what user experience means to him. His 35+ years of living with technology makes this a fun ride...the 55 minutes go real fast.

  • Around 18:30 minutes he discusses the notion of competitive athletes and making colossal failures - are you failing enough?
  • Around 30:45 minutes he talks about how great paranoia can be - are you paranoid enough?
  • Around 53:00 minutes - for the crescendo - he begins a nice little piece on Microsoft - Open Source vs. Open Research - something I never considered.
  • Ink Browsers, Being Bold, Coming from behind, it is amazing what you can accomplish if you don't care who gets credit for it. Score Channel9! I bought the book!
