eek! You should read ScottGu’s post (for good details and history of the product) and the key to having a great experience in Silverlight and Visual Studio 2008:

If you have the Beta2 or RC versions of the VS Tools for Silverlight, or the Silverlight 2 Beta SDK or Developer Editions of Silverlight 2, please make sure to uninstall these completely before downloading and installing today's release.”

Note: You need SP1 of Visual Studio and I verified that the install works cleanly on a new and previously SL Beta2 PC – with the uninstall.

Tim Heuer explain’s the “RC” tag on the download for the Silverlight Tools for Visual Studio 2008.

So here’s what I did…

  1. Uninstalled SL Beta 2 and the previously installed Beta2 toolset for Visual Studio 2008
  2. Downloaded the “RC” toolset which is labeled version 9.0.30729.143
  3. It did its magic and installed the released version of Silverlight 2 – 2.0.31005.0

As per Tim Heuer:

“Really as a developer using Visual Studio 2008, all you need to download is 2 things: Silverlight Tools for Visual Studio and the Blend 2 SP1 bits.”

I’d add the Deep Zoom Composer (version 0.9.000.5) for good measure!

P.S. I found the Q&A session from ScottGu’s teleconference for press types extremely valuable in answering questions floating around in my own head. Check it out.
