CONSTRUCTION giant John Holland says allowing employees to access social networking site Facebook can play a role in attracting and keeping young workers.

What I find interesting about the massive firewalls that some businesses put up around themselves is that it is just like saying to the employee "We don't trust you". Or more realistically,

"We trust you with a phone, we trust you with our confidential information, we trust you with our customers, we trust you with thousands of dollars of equipment - but WE THINK YOU"LL SLACK OFF ON THE INTERWEB"

Or, social networking could be embraced and turned in on itself. By using a tool like SharePoint you can build an internal network of peers that communicate and collaborate (and of course slack off, but we are all doing that anyway).
