It seems like everybody is doing "Top x Predictions for 2008", "Top x Resolutions for 2007" and the like. So here is one of my own:
1. Visual Studio 2008 - Visual Studio Tools for Office included? Templates for Office 2007, Office 2003 and SharePoint 2007 workflows? Visual Designer for the Office Ribbon? ClickOnce Deployment for Office Add-ins? Ability to target your netfx version? No longer have to stuff around with finicky VBA? Choose your own reason why Visual Studio 2008 makes it to number one of my list!
2. Word 2007 Content Control Toolkit - One of my favourite things about OpenXML is the ability to inject a structured XML document right inside of an office document zip package. This opens up some very interesting opportunities The Content Control Toolkit makes it easy to bind up Word Controls to an XML schema. I can see some very interesting scenarios involving InfoPath collecting data and Word displaying a report/contract/proposal of that same data, using the same schema and bidirectional.
3. Texcel Formbridge - InfoPath is great for developing forms from scratch or re-using a schema (unless your schema is full of crazy data-wielding attributes - keep it in elements, people - XML is supposed to be easy!). But what happens when you are crossgrading an existing form? Usually lots of back and forth conversations with statements like "I just want it to look like the old one but with all this new functionality that I just thought of". Formbridge takes the pain out of InfoPath migrations - whether it is a inForms, Quark Xpress form, PDF form, JetFlow form or even a WordPerfect Form.
4. Office Live Workspace - I like to think of this as SharePoint for the masses (Wait a minute, I thought WSS was SharePoint for the masses - never mind, there are a lot of masses). In a private beta at the moment, but watch this space!
5. BDD 2007 Solution Accelerator - Guidance on deployment, application compatibility and Fun with the OMPM. It is a must to at least be familiar with the deployment tools available to the savvy technologist.
