GNOMDEX is rocking hard! (literally) There was a rock star playing Guitar Hero in Microsoft's booth (low key just an Xbox and a few nerds):
So we have a lot of people playing Guitar Hero and I thought I would capture a video of it.
I ran into James Clarke (Program Manager for Expression Media Encoder (EME) ) - he works closely with our Silverlight Streaming by Windows Live team.
He is a Program Manager (email machine) who can code, and started telling me about an add-in he wrote for EME. I told him about this great video I had and wanted to share.
Using SkyDrive I shared the video with him to get it over to his machine.
(how did I make that link)
We encoded the video using EME and James' new plug in which is a publishing option to send it to Silverlight Streaming.
You enter the application name (or it auto generates), Account ID and Key and then it will upload (via the REST API) and return back the iframe or allow you to preview.
Next I wanted to insert the Silverlight application (now stored in the cloud) into my blog entry written using Live Writer. Using James' Insert Silverlight Streaming add in it showed me my applications and also embedded it automatically for me.
Now this is what you see in the blog entry now - Silverlight Streaming video embedded in my blog entry being served from the Windows Live datacenters on geo-scale.
So just to summarize, I can now capture video and share it (SkyDrive), I can encode the video (Expression Media Encoder) and embed into a rich application (Silverlight), to distribute that video I can publish it to Silverlight Streaming, to then allow people to find the video and write great blog entries I used Live Writer and then to bring it all together I used some add-ins for Live Writer from the Windows Live Gallery.
Integrated client applications, and services in the cloud, Software+Services Baby!

I posted the Insert Silverlight Streaming Application Livewriter plugin over here: http://www.clarkezone.net/default.aspx?id=7a1f3bea-8ab0-486c-bbf1-a334a3aec30b
Thanks James for this very useful plugin. It makes it posting a SLS video, very easy.
I have posted about your plugin at my blog also.
But I was not getting the preview shown in the plugin while inserting.
Though, I will try that again.
Why is that video set to auto-play? It freaks me out every time I load your home page o_O
Why is the video up-side-down....?
