I finally decided to have a play with the Photo Stitching stuff baked into Windows Live Photo Gallery Beta (get the beta)
I had 4 photos from my apartment in Brisbane Australia
1 photo of the bridge then 3 photos which were taken but not with a tripod and not with a panoramic photo in mind.
you select all of them and right click then select Create panoramic photo
with a bit of cropping help the photo ends up like:
