Want something cool built on Windows Live Platform but don't have time? tell me I'll get it built

I'm lucky enough to have quite a few developers at my disposal (yay!).

If you have a killer idea and want it built out in the form of a Windows Live Quick App (either new or enhancement to the existing ones) tell me!

Should the feature request make the grade; my developers can built it out and the code will be available in the Windows Live Platform Quick Apps in Codeplex.

Either log a job in Codeplex or leave a comment!

  • I thought of a pretty good idea that works with SkyDrive.

There should be a client that a user can install on their computer.  It will bind to a global hotkey, for example 'crtl+e'.  When the user hits the hotkey, it will read the clipboard.  In the event a picture or text is on the clipboard it will write it to a temp file.  If there is a file already on it, then it wont need to do anything.  It will then take either the temp file or the orginal file and upload it to skydrive.  Once it is completed it will replace their clipboard with the direct url to their newly uploaded file on skydrive.

I think this is really good idea because many times a day i want to send things to my friend via IM or email.  This would cut down on the time it takes by more then 80%.  If i wanted to send a word doc to my friend I could simply crtl+c the file, crtl+e to upload it, and crtl+v to paste the url into the chat windows.

  • Ohhh..you had to ask... :)

    1. A fantasy sports (football, cricket, golf, baseball etc...) game all running atop Windows Live.

    -Log in with Live ID

-notifications of our players scoring points sent to us via Live Alerts or sent to our 'What's New' feed in Spaces

-Form mini-leagues using Live Groups (if it ever arrives)

-Automatically invite our messenger contacts to participate

-View upcoming games on a Live Calendar

-Basically a vertical offering on top of the WL horizontal platform (http://jamiethomson.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!550F681DAD532637!2382.entry)

-Many many other touchpoints with Windows Live

    2. "Where am I now?" Publishing my current position (from my GPS-equipped phone) and displaying it to all my contacts.

  • How about a mashup between sportsdo kit (the location thingy that you keep highlighting) and WL Calendar. So that it shows your location as a timeline.

I guess this depends on your ability to expose a webdav calendar of your location and WL Calendar's ability to be embedded somewhere - which I do't think they can do yet.

  • Two ideas, one that would've helped me last year and one that'll help now:

    1) Alumni organization service.  Classmates tracked down by location in Maps, reunion info hosted in Events, announcement boards, photos on spaces, etc.

    2) Community organization (think homeowner's association).

  • I like Marius' ideas. I suspect that Live groups will cover these sorts of things when it comes out but until then...they'd make a great quickapp.

Announcement boards....Would this be covered by Live Events and/or Live Calendar?

  • This isn't for me (promise - my missus would kill me) but how about a dating site? I'm sure there's potential for use of lots of Live Services in such a thing.

By the way...in Spaces we can see whether Spaces Friends that are mentioned on our What's New feed (and elewhere) are online or not. This suggests that there is some sort of API that makes that information available. Will that API ever be available for public consumption? I know we have Messenger Presence but that's not exactly the same thing because people have to opt into that and explicitly put it on their own page. If this feature were available to 3rd parties then it could be very useful e.g. If someone were building a dating site.

  • Another idea...

I've just received details about a 1 week conference I am attending in April. Its the MVP conference actually.

There's lots of information in there and they even have a dedicated site with FAQs, hotel details, a wiki for session suggestions, an itinerary, and in the future there'll be a mechanism for each attendee to pick which sessions he/she is attending thus building a personal agenda.

It seems to me that these things are all pretty standard for conferences and lots of them (sessions, events, itineraries, etc...) map pretty well to Live Services. For example, if each session were a Live Event then we could pick which ones we were interested in and add them to a Live Calendar. I guess this would need a Live Calendar API but I expect that that is coming soon.

Perhaps there's a way to leverage Live Services in order to run a conference? Might be a good candidate for a Quick App. OK, I know conferences aren't as cool as bicycle clubs...but nonetheless...it could be good.
