Easily link to a blog with the Messenger Presence for the Author : Using Windows Live Writer

I blogged about adding messenger presence to blog cross posts before and thought there must be an easier way.

I issued the challenge to ScottIsAFool   Click to IM ScottIsAFool (aka Scott Lovegrove) and he came through with the goods. His directions for doing this via Windows Live Writer:

  • This could be done with a plugin that currently exists called the dynamic template plugin.
  • All you would have to do (once you've installed the template) is put in the person's name and their CID.
  • Download and install the DT plugin from http://www.codeplex.com/wlwtemplate/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=7199
  • then once installed, save the template from here and double click it in Explorer (this will add it to your list of templates),
  • then in writer, select dynamic template,
  • choose Messenger Presence and click continue,
  • then put in the details (the url is not needed and if none put in, no link is created), and you're good to go :)

Now How did I add his presence?

  • Get his presence ID and copy it into your clipboard (CTRL+C)

  • Open live writer & select Insert Template

  • Paste in the ID, blog URL & name then hit OK and the presence will be inserted.
