BizTalk Sever Administration Console repeatedly hangs when trying to expand on Windows Server 2008


You have a BizTalk server which is running on Windows Server 2008 SP2. When you attempt to expand the items, for example BizTalk Group, in the BizTalk Server Administration Console, the BizTalk MMC hangs intermittently.


We have captured dump files for the specific svchost.exe(in which runs the WMI service), WmiPrvSE.exe(in which runs the btswmiprovider.dll module) and mmc.exe(in which runs the BizTalk Server Administration Console) when the issue occurred. It indicated that the WMI provider host (WmiPrvSE.exe) was experiencing a deadlock caused by some Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) initialization code. This should be a problem in Windows server 2008.


The potential workaround is to kill the WmiPrvSE.exe process by task manager to eliminate the deadlock while BizTalk Server Administration Console is hanging.
