We came across several issues recently where we have successfully installed the AX 2012 office addins, but the add-ins tab, DynamicsAX, does not appear in Excel or Word 2007, which is running on Windows Server 2008 R2
This is a known issue in general and is described in one of our earlier posts http://blogs.msdn.com/b/axsupport/archive/2011/11/30/dynamics-ax-2012-office-add-ins-and-office-2007.aspx and the fix is described in KB976811.
The fix has two stages as described in the KB article:(1) Either install Microsoft Office 2007 hotfix 976811 or upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007 Service Pack 3, and
(2) Create a registry reg_dword key called EnableLocalMachineVSTO with value 0x1 under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\General\
However what the KB article does not mention is that on a 64-bit machine the registry path would be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\General as Office 2007 is a 32bit application (the article was written in good old Windows XP 32bit days)
So in summary for the issues we encountered, we were able to enable the Office addins on a computer running 64bit Windows Vista/7/Server 2008/Server 2008 R2, by following of the following resolution paths (A) or (B):
Resolution:(A) If you have Excel/Word 2007 SP3 installed than all you need to do is follow through KB976811 and create the registry key, EnableLocalMachineVSTO, under this path instead: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\General
Then Run Excel or Word and enable the AX 2012 COM add-ins
(i) If you are running Excel/Word 2007 SP2 or earlier than install hotfix KB976811
(ii) Than follow through KB976811 to create the registry key, EnableLocalMachineVSTO, but create it under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\General
(iii) Then Run Excel or Word and enable the COM add-ins
You may find that the addins tab disappears each time you load Excel or Word 2007. This is controlled by the registry key LoadBehaviour. The default value is 0, change it to 3 to make it persist. For example on a 64bit computer the LoadBehaviour key for addins in Excel are under:
Great information. I'm glad this is posted somewhere.
With regards to Dynamics AX 2012 working with various versions of Office... I put some information about using Dynamics AX 2012 with Office 365 on my blog:
On Windows 7 64 & 32 bit running Office 2010 you may also need to upgrade App Fabric (KB2654431) - this fixes an issue where the user has to be a local admin to control the add-in
I cannot find any resources how to do my data migration ..
