&lt;p&gt;We realised post v1 that in using MEF for extensibility most apps were using it for internal composition as well, so we hope to make that a much smoother experience. This increases our overlap with other general IoC containers, but there is a wide spectrum of functionality in that space so really MEF is MEF :)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Whether you use MEF or another framework for composition depends on which particular aspects are important in your application.&lt;/p&gt;
