I am currently in Atlanta for MGB (Microsoft Global Briefing).  It's our annual meeting where we ramp up on current and future products and strategies.

As I learn more and more about Longhorn, I am becoming convinced that our .NET Smart Client architecture will be the essential, complementary technology for Web Services.  Right now, I believe it is the best user interface option for most business application development. We've come a long way with the browser, but it was never intended to be an application UI and it cannot compete with the usability of native UI technology.  In the Longhorn timeframe, I believe Web Service-enabled Smart Client applications will fundamentally change and improve the way information workers collaborate because they will be able to share processes as easily as they currently share data.  Take a look at the Carter Maslan Longhorn Preview videos and see if you agree.
