Yesterday I flew into Amsterdam and today I walked all over the city taking pictures for a mini-tourist day before the conference tomorrow. It’s a bit chilly (for me) but so far hardly any rain at all. It’s a little after 6pm in Holland as I write this and it’s almost time for the speaker dinner but I thought I’d post a few pictures I took earlier.
Robert Green and I met for breakfast (bumped into Shawn Wildermuth) and then took off or a walking tour around town. Robert loves to take pictures and has a fancy-smancy camera. I just have a point-and-shoot but I thought it took pretty decent photos nonetheless. (Click to enlarge)
It’s my 4th time in Holland and I love it. Maybe someday Alan and I will come here for vacation :-). I’ve got an early session tomorrow so I probably won’t stay out too late. Now that we’re at the Papendal conference center and not in Amsterdam I’ll be less tempted to stay up tonight. ;-)
I’ll report back tomorrow and let you know how day 1 turns out. I’m sure it will be a great conference. I’m definitely anxious for it to begin.
Hi Beth,
Hope you like Amsterdam a little. Today it was a wonderful day, the weather was fine (indeed a little cold, but the sun was shining;-) )
I am living in the south near Eindhoven. Good luck with your conference tomorrow and have some fun later.
Hopefully you see that not everybody in the Netherlands smoke weed and walks on woodden shoes.
Have a nice evening.
Dennis
Hey Beth,
Is the travel one of the perks of working for MS? I wish I got out even half as much as you do!!! Right now though, my salary doesn't seem to like me at all because it runs away very quickly every month, meaning a plane ticket to Holland is so far out of the question it's not even funny!
Enjoy the conference, and spoil yourself a little, ok.
You deserve a little pampering for all your amazing work!!!
Regards,
Logan
@Dennnis LOL. It's my fourth time in Amsterdam so I know that the city is much more than just the red light district ;) I love the architecture, canals and museums. We event went to the purse museum and it was very cool!
@Logan I travel when I am invited to speak at conferences. I used to do it even before Microsoft. I've always loved teaching. One of the benefits of that is of course you get to see amazing places. I hop to make it down your way someday.
"Fancy-scmancy" ??? Is that one of those Korean brands?
;)

Beth, Maybe when VS2010 is officially released (no more beta), MS can preview it at rAge. In case you don't know, rAge is a computer and gaming expo here in SA.
If that were to happen, I'm sure you could come over and talk about it.
I travelled to Amsterdam together with my company co-workers the weekend before SDC. What a shame we weren't aware of this.
