We just released Visual Studio LightSwitch Beta 1 to MSDN subscribers. Public availability will be this Monday, August 23rd but if you are an MSDN subscriber visit your subscriptions page to get access to the download now. Otherwise check the the LightSwitch Developer Center on Monday for the public download.
Here are some resources to help get you started -- we have a lot more for you on Monday via the Dev Center so stay tuned!
We're looking forward to your feedback, please visit the forums.
I have to say I have been having a ball creating How Do I videos for LightSwitch this week and exploring and learning the product. We're planning on a re-vamp of the LightSwitch Dev Center on Monday and the videos (plus a lot of other content) will be available at that time with links to the public download when available.
Looks interesting, if it really works as they intend, it would be a great tool.
Thanks for the information.
I am desperate to get my hands on this! I'd love to evaluate it over the next few days and the weekend, but can't afford the MSDN subscription at the moment :(
Am a Visual Studio MSDN subscriber but I can't find it on the list of downloads
I'm not sure why you aren't seeing the download if you are a subscriber. I would contact MSDN subscription customer service: msdn.microsoft.com/.../aa948875.aspx
I downloaded VS Lightswitch installer from MSDN site. I want to install it on my work machine which already has VS 2010 Ultimate and SL 4.0. Will VS Lightswitch installer work well with existing VS 2010 Ultimate?
Theoretically it should install fine but please remember that this is a Beta with no Go-Live license so it should only be installed on testing machines or VMs not machines where you do production work. Let us know how the install goes and please ask questions and report issues in the Beta forum: social.msdn.microsoft.com/.../threads
For those that aren't finding it, go look under Visual Studio 2010 under downloads. The search feature doesn't find it, even though it is there.
Can I use Bing Map SL control in LightSwitch app.?
today is Monday, August 23rd. But I can't see the download link.
Can you estimate at which time the download will be possible (noon, afternoon, tonight)?
Kind regards, Daniel
Echoing Daniel S. question as to the time of availability today of LightSwitch to the general public?
Glad you're excited but we're barely awake yet on the pacific coast ;-). Check the developer center around 12:30pm PST. http://msdn.com/lightswitch
Looking forward to 3:30pm EST haha. From the video's that I saw, it definitely looks like something I would be interested in to help make my productivity easier. at least now (since I'm still beginner at programming) I can make a program much faster than how I have in the past.
Also waiting here in Prague for 21:30 CET. Seems that with LightSwitch, you had definitelly reached a way for modern flexible alternative to czech CP/M+DOS based tool PC-FAND invented by Gert Klötzer 20+ yers ago. I am sure I will write more about that later as LS really isnt only managers toy... Rather some "Luddite" is here again, many developers will start to "break machines" in next years probably, but its OK - Its all about model based live patterns around DSLs, as simple as possible but not simpler... So great work! Thanks :-)
Great work Thanks:-)
