SharePoint is typically installed in larger organizations or business where team collaboration, content management, or other data and process workflows are needed to streamline the business. There are some data sheets on SharePoint here:

If you are a shop of 1 then you don't need SharePoint yourself, however if you want to expand your skillset for hire, this is one of the hottest Microsoft technologies in larger businesses today. It depends on where you want to focus your skills, this may or may not be right for you.

ok so here is the deal

my logic side says:why i have to learn sharepoint if i can do all the thing it does with visual basic

i even dont know what sharepoint is for

i am a freelancer so any getting started video talking abt introduction to Sharepoint says that they is designed for teams collaboration and blah blah blah and i am freelancer and not in a team

so i close that video and never try to learn sharepoint cause i am a freelance and i am vb

and the same cenario happens over and over again

if u did understand my problem can you pls guide me?

@handerchief: be careful what you wish for. Already the RTM edition of SharePoint 2010 contains nasty errors that somehow "slipped by" whatever passes for "quality assurance" on the Microsoft SharePoint team. If you don't mind be branded a nuisance, just ask about the nasty , bug in TaxonomyPicker.ascx, just to name one example.

It's wonderful that stuff is happening but.... What a shame we have to wait so long! The problems being addressed are Major Issues in large-scale Sharepoint Development. We're all swimming and building stuff and it may all be for naught...
