The first public build of the TFS 2010 Power Tools are now available.  I wrote details about them a couple of weeks ago: http://blogs.msdn.com/bharry/archive/2009/11/18/tfs-2010-power-tools-coming-soon.aspx

A reminder – these are really “pre-release” Power Tools.  We’re producing this build so that early adopters of TFS 2010 Beta 2 will have them but we’ll be producing a final 2010 Power Tools release near the VS/TFS 2010 launch date.

We’ve also moved our Power Tools from the general Microsoft download site to the Visual Studio Gallery site.  This is in an attempt to make it easier to find all of the relevant Visual Studio add-ons.

Here are the links:

1. TFS MSSCCI Provider: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/f959ea32-5ac3-424a-a709-5001a158ebe8

2. TFPT: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/0e69a28f-020c-488b-80b3-f4c89a20621d

As always, if you find any issues, please report them.  We are eager to fix any significant issues before the final 2010 release.

You can share questions, comments, etc on: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/tfspowertools/threads

And you can report bugs at: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio

You can just set the product as TFS 2010 and note somewhere that it is a Power Tool issue and we’ll route it appropriately.

Thanks and sorry for the long wait,

Brian

  • Brian,

This is a great news... I have been waiting for this for a long time.

    Thanks

    Rohit

  • YEAH! Thanks guys!

  • Hi Brian, i installed power tools in my server machine (where i have also installed TFS) but when i try to open a workitem type, appear the box "unable to connect to team foundation server.....".

I'm sure that the URL is correct because if i use that in team explorer works correctly.

    Have tou some idea?

    Thank you very much!

    Andrea

  • Hi Andrea,

I assume your trying to open a WIT from a server.  Can you confirm that you are using the full server path (including the collection name).  Unfortunately the connection mechanism for PTE is not aware of team project collections. We will add this to our backlog for RTM.

You will need to enter the Collection name in the Connection Details box also, such that your "Preview" looks like:

    http://servername:8080/tfs/collectionName

  • Perfect Brian,

i try with your suggest and it works!

  • Hi Brian, I have installed TFS but i couldn't find any search option like VSS. I heard that TFS 2008 Power Tools also can be used for this Search option. Please advise if you have some idea about this. Or do we have any other windows program for Search option? Please share your Suggestions or Solutions with me. Thanks.

  • Will there be a 64bits version of the MSSCCI Provider. Thanks.

  • I hadn't thought about it.  What IDE hosts a 64-bit MSSCCI Provider?

  • I use Matlab and it got a MSSCCI host. Since we need a lot of memory in Matlab, we need the 64bits version (so the 64bits version of the MSSCCI provider). Thanks.

  • We don't have one right now.  It's possible to do but demand hasn't been very high for it.  I'm actually not aware of any 64-bit MSSCCI providers.  Are you aware of any?  I've asked the team to reassess what we think the demand and cost for it would be.

  • Hi Brian, are there any plans to release a version of the PowerTools that works with the RC?  According to the discussion at http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/0e69a28f-020c-488b-80b3-f4c89a20621d, they are not supported.  We are just now getting to our VS/TFS 2010 evaluation but are feeling the absence of the PowerTools keenly. :(

    Thanks for any advice.

    -Brian

  • We are also significantly affected by the lack of PowerTool support in the RC. Like Brian B, we waited until RC to test 2010, and the integrated bug tracking is one of the killer features that I'm counting on to get buy-in from the team. But if we cannot customize the work items, my demo loses a lot of its persuasive power.

And call me spoiled, but "hand-editing the WIT XML" equals "cannot customize the work items". The Process Template Editor is my biggest need right now.

  • Are the 2010 Power Tools available for the RTM?

  • Not yet but they are coming very soon - within the next couple of weeks.

  • I'm also facing the same situation. In the company we have a huge demand for Matlab (since it is a F1 company) and we're using the 64bit version of Matlab. The thing is that Matlab 64 does not allow you to connect to 32 bit msscci, only 64 bit. Since the first time question from Simon in the 1st of feb. Has there been any thought about doing something like the msscci 64 bit version?

    Thanks

    Sergio
