Support for the 2010 RC

Like Beta 2, the RC is a  supported, "go live" release, able to be used in a production environment.  If you already acquired your support ID for Beta 2, it will continue to work for the RC.  If you haven't gotten it yet, here's how you can: http://blogs.msdn.com/bharry/archive/2009/10/26/support-for-vs-2010-beta-2.aspx

  • Where are the Mobile Tools? I an accept not in BETA, but now you have RC I need them.

  • The mobile tools are not shipping as part of VS 2010 RTM.  The decision was made some time ago to ship the mobile tools on the mobile platform schedule rather than the development tools schedule.  Expect that the mobile tools will ship sometime after VS 2010 and will plug into VS 2010 at that time.

For the mean time, mobile developers should keep using the VS 2008 toolset.

Expect to hear more in the next few months.

  • Any word on the TeamPrise suite of tools? I don't see any downloads for them on MSDN, and havn't heard much since the announcement that MS aquired them.

  • We are working hard on an update to the Teamprise tools.  We're getting them in a state that Microsoft can sell and support them and we are adding capability to make them work better with TFS 2010.  Most of the feature work is done now and we are going to be doing limited preview (not sure if we'll call it a Beta, RC, CTP, who knows) in a month or so.

    Stay tuned for more info.

  • Brian,

I know you've said in the past that the final release will provide a web interface to team foundation server for the "new work item" exception listed in the licensing whitepaper.  Can you confirm that that will be available with the release?

  • Yes, it's in the product.  You need to grant the user permission to use one or more team projects, then put them in the Work Item Only View Users server wide group (which you can do with the admin console by selecting the Application Tier node and clicking Group Membership).  Then when the user browses to the TFS web view (e.g. http://myserver:8080/tfs), they will see the limited work item only view.
