Team Explorer 2005 update for interoperating with TFS 2010 is now available!

  • Comments 9

This morning we delivered the final version of the patch to Team Explorer 2005 that enables it to work well with a TFS 2010 server.  Of course, it will also still work well against a 2005 or 2008 server.  You can download the update here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=22215e4c-af6f-4e2f-96df-20e94d762689

and, of course, the update for Team Explorer 2008 has been available for a while:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=cf13ea45-d17b-4edc-8e6c-6c5b208ec54d

Good luck with it and let me know if I can help you,

Brian

  • Awesome!  Those of us that still have to use VS2005 for legacy projects really appreciate it!

Now I just need to get a TFS 2010 instance up and running...

  • Thanks for releasing this! I have a lot of VS2005 solutions/projects that need to stay 2005 under the 2010 server. I connected just fine, after I typed everything in just right (thanks to http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonba/archive/2009/08/10/how-to-connect-to-a-tfs-2010-server-from-a-2008-team-explorer-client.aspx).

But it right away errored because it already had a workspace mapping for my username/computer. I'm guessing that's because our 2010 server is running an imported copy of the 2005 server and the 2005 server already had the workspace defined. But... how do I make this case work? Do I need to re-import? Or can I clear the imported workspaces manually?

  • Could you give me the exact error?  You should be able to run "tf workspaces" from the command line and it will rebuild the workspace cache.  Hopefully you aren't running both the 2005 and cloned 2010 copy at the same time - that will confuse the client unless you change the TFS GUID.

  • We are having the same issue where we get the workspace is already mapped to [user]/[pc] error. This is on a pc with the 2010/2008/2005 clients installed , becase reporting services is still in sql2005. Any ideas, i can provide more information if you can tell me waht you need. (we did refresh using the tf command but it mad no difference)

  • I try to install this update but I have an error message who sad "windows installer can't find product ...).

I have a french version of VS.NET 2005, and install this Team Explorer (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=fr&FamilyID=46473c2a-bb85-4461-bb27-4792a5def222)

Is it possible that this update is not compatible with french version ?

    Thanks for any help

  • It's good. But what about conterary situation: Integrationg VS2010 RC with TFS 2005. It works quite good from Team Explorer. But VS2010 RC replaces office integration plugin! And it doesn't work at all. So I can't integrate TFS and Project from now. The only solution is to uninstall VS2010 (then 2008 plugin restores).

So I have a choice to use one: Project to TFS integration or VS2010.

    Sad...  :(

Does Microsoft have any plans to fix this issue?

Manuy thanks in advance for the answer

  • Hi Taqi,

The patch should work with the french version of TFS. It looks like the issue may be an ordering issue. You need to make sure you have (in order) 1) VS 2005 2) Team Explorer  3) VS2005 SP1 (as well as making sure windows is up to date) then installing the comaptability GDR. If you installed VS2005 SP1 before installing team explorer, you will need to make sure that you install VS 2005 SP1 again.

  • Following up on Ghostknight's comment:

One reason the new 2010 TFS Office Integration Add-In would not work in this scenario would be that the version of Office you are using is 2003 which is no longer supported.    The 2010 Add-ins do support Office 2007 or 2010.  If this is not the issue, please contact me at jonieren@microsoft.com to investigate.

  • Thanks for your quick help. I solved the problem. The problem came from English Team Explorer with VS 2005 in french.

So I installed Team Explorer in French, after the SP1 and finally the patch and everything work correctly

    Thanks a lot,

    Taqi A
