Microsoft Offers $250,000 Reward for Information Leading to Conviction of MyDoom.B Perpetrators

REDMOND, Wash. -- Jan. 29, 2004 -- Microsoft Corp. today announced that it will pay a $250,000 (U.S.) reward for information resulting in the arrest and conviction of those responsible for unleashing the MyDoom.B worm. MyDoom.B, detected yesterday, is a variant of the earlier released MyDoom.A worm, also known as the Novarg worm, which has spread quickly infecting computers around the world. The release of this B variant triggered the first alert from the newly formed Department of Homeland Security’s cyber alert system yesterday.

When I came home tonight, my wife said that giant, pig-sized raccoons jumped out of the bushes and ran to the woods as she was about to cook some steaks on the grill. I found this funny because I've never seen a racoon in Redmond. I said they must have been bear cubs. Either way, the steak was awesome.

BTW: My home town in Wisconsin is somewhat famous for a certain raccoon...

Wired has a pretty good writeup today on the Mydoom worm. Many users may not know that they're infected, so it's really imperative that people get good AV software installed and scan their machines regularly.

I was talking to somebody the yesterday about how much he likes the Netflix service that allows him to rent DVDs over the net and through the mail. Funny thing, I just saw this post on Wes Felter's Hack the Planet linking to a Register piece titled Netflix: the fly in the ointment of VoD. Put that together another discussoin I had yesterday with Duncan about Jim Gray's TeraScale Sneakernet and that'll give you some stuff to think about.
