I gave a presentation at TechEd 2008 where I covered our new features in "A Day in the Life of a DBA". Here's more of what I showed for 8:00am - "Good Morning Sunshine":

We've included several new Performance Monitor (more accurately called System Monitor) counters for SQL Server in this release. Many of the new features have counters associated with them, which you can use to create logs and alerts that perform actions based on a value.

We've also enhanced some of the previous features to have more System Monitor counters. Of particular note are the Database Mirroring additional counters, such as:

  • Log Bytes Redone from Cache
  • Log Bytes Sent from Cache
  • Log Compressed Bytes Received
  • Log Compressed Bytes Sent
  • Log Harden Time
  • Log Remaining for Undo
  • Log Scanned for Undo
  • Log Send Flow Control Time
  • Mirrored Write Transactions
  • Send/Receive Ack Time

Using these counters, you can calculate an approximate recovery time in case of a failure! Mondo cool.
