Alot of repair work to be done, there will (is) be alot of pain, mistakes have and will be made but we are alot better off than most people who get struck by a disaster like this.

Thanks

I've been to NZ; it's a stunningly beautiful place.

Could you ship your government over here? :)

Seriously - our prayers are with you.

The city I live in, Christchurch, New Zealand, population 400 000, was just hit by a 7.1 earthquake, two days ago, very close, very shallow.

Much damage done. Water, power, sewage systems hit hard.

Government building regulations helped when that ‘one in a hundred’ (a thousand?) year earthquake hit. No one died.

Now the government running health services are running well, civil engineering (local government & private) are well coordinated and fixing the place up again.

The compulsory government earthquake insurance I had to buy when I got my private household insurance will help to fix a few things around my house and rebuild many other houses.

I could go and live in Haiti, Pakistan or Turkey, less government taxes, regulations etc but much more deaths.

Must say I have never been more happy with government intervention.
