i do my best not to use cuss words so i’m going to leave it at that. the reason that i get really, really frustrated with a lot Web applications is usually because of state.

all Thursday night, i wasted hours just trying to book a few hotel stays. the application kept timing out, wouldn’t let me advance to the next screen, and when it did, it kept thinking i still wanted to book a two month stay (i had made a typo on an earlier screen, since corrected for over an hour!). if companies can’t keep their Web apps running reliably 24/7 then they should just take the hit, regularly schedule shut down of their operations for several hours each week for servicing and suffer the resulting embarrassment and ignominy (can you name a large online auction site here?).

of course, Friday morning, the application in question is now timing out because the server is too busy. net, if your company suggests moving to an online corporate travel service called Travelport, a Cendant company, i would advise that you adjust your frustration tolerance peak level now… they are the winners of my dubious distinction Web application jester award for the week though!

forward to Saturday morning, i decided to make a new blog entry. the trouble is that i take my time selecting my words very carefully (though you may think otherwise reading this now). by the time i was finished writing and clicking the Submit button, i guess the Web application had timed out as i was looking at the login screen. i typed in my credentials and the maintenance screen showed that i had two (2) blog entries (those that you see below), rather than three (3), counting the one that i had just written (for the benefit of no one but the ether)…

oh, well. i did re-title this blog as Atmosphere, from subliminal to the sublime…

from now on, i’m going to be writing the entries for this blog in Microsoft Word and then cutting and pasting into the blog tool. much as i will be loathe to do so, i’ll re-write this morning’s blog entry but later, i just can’t face doing so right now.
