    Hi!!

If you have Service Pack 3 for SharePoint Server 2007 installed, and you try to install this cumulative update package, you may encounter an error that states that "the expected version of the product was not found on the system." If this issue occurs, run the package executable (.exe) file at a command prompt and set the PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1 switch to the following setting.

    For x86: "office-kb2596986-fullfile-x86-glb.exe PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1"

    For x64: "office-kb2596986-fullfile-x64-glb.exe PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1"

Lync Server 2010 and SharePoint on the same server => Not Supported

Available in Spanish on HablaMOSS blog

    Hi all

The other day I wanted to run some test regarding Lync Server 2010 and SharePoint. Unfortunately, I found the next error message:

"Not Available: Failure occured while attemmpting to check the schema state. Please ensure Active Directory is reachable"

After some time pulling my hair out checking DNS settings, DC connections and so on I decided to check the official documentation.

Unfortunately, I found that I was wasting my time in something that was unsupported :(

"You cannot collocate any Exchange Unified Messaging (UM) component or SharePoint component with any Lync Server role."

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398102.aspx

Next time I will read the documentation first instead of doing experiments :) .

SharePoint Server 2010 & MySite exception: Your personal site does not contain a picture library named 'Pictures'.

Click on this sentence for this article in Spanish; Available on the Spanish SharePoint Support Team blog.

    Hi

Most of you have faced the following bug after uploading a photo to a root MySite site collection:

The issue is because of a regression on the October 2011 CU. The steps to repro it:

Users cannot upload pictures to mysite configured on root site collections of a web app

    1. Create a Mysite collection for UPA
    2. Install OctCU
    3. Goto mysite as a user and try to change his picture

Unfortunately, There isn't any easy workaround for that however the issue has been fixed in the December CU 2011 (It will be released circa December 27th 2011)

    Thank you.

SQL Server 2012 not supported on WSS 3.0/MOSS 2007 and versions previous than SharePoint 2010 SP1

    Hi.

I would like to remind that SQL Server 2012 is not supported on WSS 3.0/MOSS 2007.

Basicaly, The supportability of products is normally the minimum requirement + 2 versions, unless exceptions. So in this case, the minimum requirement is SQL Server 2000 and the next two versions are SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008/R2.

Furthermore, If you want to use it on SharePoint  2010 SP1 you have to be installed at least on the SP1, as you can check on the following url:

SharePoint 2010 & Visual Studio 2010 error ocurred Activate Features Feature with ID installed in this farm cannot be added to this scope.

    Hello

Maybe most of you have faced the following VS 2010 error message when trying to debug or deploy a wsp file via VS 2010 in a multi-server farm:

Error occurred in deployment step 'Activate Features': Feature with Id '2447ad0c-98d2-4363-9ef0-f217694f804e' is not installed in this farm, and cannot be added to this scope.

Basically the error happens because VS 2010 do not support features activation on multi-server farms.

However ,the devil is in the details, the exact explanation is in a previous step. It turns out that VS 2010 internally implements a call to the method  SPSolution.DeployLocal http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.sharepoint.administration.spsolution.deploylocal.aspx . That method is intended for troubleshooting purpouses of wsp files and as you can read on the MSDN documentation it performs a local deployment instead of an immediate deployment (Only to one sever of the farm)

Therefore, the only solution to avoid the situation is to compile the code (build o re-build) , go to the VS 2010 top menu and select build -> package. After that a new wsp file will be created on the BIN folder of the project.

Eventually, now you are free of selecting ,PowerShell or STSAdm, in order to add a solution, deploy it and activate it

    Thanks

    Kind Regards.

Disponible cliente Lync 2010 para Windows Phone (Actualizado)

    Hola

Integration isssue: Dynamics CRM 2011 List Component and SharePoint 2010. Document List appears as a SharePoint 2010 iframe

    Hello

Today, I've been contacted by my fellow colleague from the CRM team, Fausto Cipriani. He wanted me to lend him a hand with a case related to integration between Dynamics CRM 2011 List Component and SharePoint 2010.

It turns out that one of his customers when trying to connect to one of the Documents connections he retrieves something like a SharePoint 2010 embeded page in an iframe instead of the view of the connector. For instance

We proceed to check the hot spots regarding how to set up the connector:

    • SharePoint Web Application de SharePoint doesn't set to Permissive.
    • Check if the connection has been validated.
    • Feature activated.

The previous points were right configured. The customer informed us that his administrator user was not having the issue but other administrators were having it, besides the some users.

Checking the url that the connector were connecting to, it failed when connecting to a child site. Furthermore when we were checking if the feature was activated, I noticed that the feature was a site collection feature and not a site feature (That means that the feature only appears on the top site instead on every site, appears in Manage Site Collection Feature y not in Manage Site features)

I thought to myself if any user that was failing had credential/rights on the top/parent site. We checked that it hadn't any right so we granted viewers only rights, the issue dissapeared and the documents view appeared properly. For instance (BTW, the user didn't have any document)

Then, if the connector it is configured against a child site that belongs to a site collection that has a hierarchy it's needed ,at least, to grant viewers only credentials to the user in the parent site that is belonging the feature.

    Potential explanation of the issue

My point of view about why this issue is hapenning is:

As the feature is a site collection feature, the connector custom code needs that the user logged has credentials on the parent site because if not the internal logic of the connector could be failing and it's not able to complete the action of listing the documents and set the right documents view

Unfortunately, this is only an assumption because I do not have any oficial statement from the CRM Product Group nor the SharePoint Product Group

Eventually, I would like to point you to the following urls about how to set up the connector and the official download page of the connector:

Fix on Software boundaries and limits for SharePoint 2013 documentation

    Hi

It has been detected a bug documentation on Software boundaries and limits for SharePoint 2013 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787.aspx for Spanish, Italian and French languages, among others languages except English.

The bug is concerning the Web Applciation section that does not reflect that SharePoint 2013 supports farms of 20 Web Application or less.

Now, the bug is on fix process.

BTW, the documentation on English prevails over the other languages.

Points to consider with Distributed Cache on SharePoint 2013 [UPDATED]

    Hi

I would like to highlight some points concerning Distributed Cache and SharePoint 2013:

    • NEVER admin the distributed cache from the admin console.

The Distributed Cache service can end up in a nonfunctioning or unrecoverable state if you do not follow the procedures that are listed in this article. In extreme scenarios, you might have to rebuild the server farm. The Distributed Cache depends on Windows Server AppFabric as a prerequisite. Do not administer the AppFabric Caching Service from the Services window in Administrative Tools in Control Panel. Do not use the applications in the folder named AppFabric for Windows Server on the Start menu.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219613.aspx

    • Maximum capacity of memory is 16 GB per host cache.

On a server that has more than 16 GB of total physical memory, allocate a maximum of 16 GB of memory to the Distributed Cache service. If you allocate more than 16 GB of memory to the Distributed Cache service, the server might unexpectedly stop responding for more than 10 seconds.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/jj219572%28office.15%29.aspx

    • Dynamic memory is not supported in SharePoint 2013 environments nor APP fabric servers.

The Distributed Cache service can run on either a physical or virtual server. When using virtualization, do not use Dynamic Memory to manage shared memory resources among other virtual machines and the Distributed Cache servers. The memory allocation for virtualized Distributed Cache servers must be fixed.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219572.aspx

    • The product after being installed allocates 10% of the physical RAM memory available at the sever. It can be configured following the next point.
    • Recomended not to run Distributed Cache in same server as:
      • SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012
      • Search service
      • Excel Services in SharePoint
      • Project Server service

                            http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219572(v=office.15).aspx

    • It's recommended to allocate 2 GB for other services. For calculate the amount of memory you can apply following statement

When your server farm has a dedicated Distributed Cache server. Use the following method to calculate how much memory can be assigned to the Distributed Cache service:

    1. Determine the total physical memory on the server. For this example, we will use 16 GB as the total physical memory available on the server.

    2. Reserve 2 GB of memory for other processes and services that are running on the cache host. For example, 16 GB – 2 GB = 14 GB. This remaining memory is allocated to the Distributed Cache service.

    3. Take half of the remaining memory, and convert it to MB. For example, 14 GB/2 = 7 GB or 7000 MB. This is the cache size of the Distributed Cache service

    4. Use the following procedure to update the memory allocation accordingly.

                                         http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219613.aspx

    • It's not supported to develop code against the Dsitributed Cache of SharePoint 2013.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/calvarro/archive/2013/06/05/supportability-of-custom-developments-in-sps-2013-and-appfabric-cache.aspx

    • Code errors that you can face when managing Distributed Cache via PowerShell command lets

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/es-es/library/ff921008(v=azure.10).aspx

    • Install the latest APP Fabric CU if possible. Right now we are in CU 4

                      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2800726

    • Install latest APP Fabric CU if possible. Right now we are in CU 5

                      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2932678

After installing the update you should do the following in all the servers that are holding the distributed cache

After you apply this cumulative update, AppFabric uses a nonblocking garbage collection (background server garbage collection). Nonblocking garbage collection is a new feature in the .NET Framework 4.5.

To apply this fix, follow these steps:

    1. Upgrade the servers to the .NET Framework 4.5.
    2. Install the cumulative update package.
    3. Enable the fix by using the following setting <appSettings><add key="backgroundGC" value="true"/></appSettings> in the DistributedCacheService.exe.config file between

           </configSections>

       <appSettings><add key="backgroundGC" value="true"/></appSettings>

       <dataCacheConfig>

    4. Restart the AppFabric Caching service for the update to take effect.
Note By default, the DistributedCacheService.exe.config file is located under the following directory:

    %ProgramFiles%\AppFabric 1.1 for Windows Server

    • Good article from my fellow colleague Sam Betts about how to troubleshoot issues with the Distributed Cache and SharePoint 2013

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sambetts/archive/2014/03/19/sharepoint-2013-distributed-cache-appfabric-troubleshooting.aspx

    • Maybe you'll need to tune up the timeout settings, max buffer etc settings of the distributed cache containers. Example for the DistributedLogonTokenCache.

    Get-SPDistributedCacheClientSetting -ContainerType DistributedLogonTokenCache
    $DLTC = Get-SPDistributedCacheClientSetting -ContainerType DistributedLogonTokenCache
    $DLTC.maxBufferPoolSize = "1073741824"
    $DLTC.maxBufferSize = "33554432"
    $DLTC.requestTimeout = "3000"
    $DLTC.channelOpenTimeOut = "3000"
    $DLTC.MaxConnectionsToServer = "100"
    Set-SPDistributedCacheClientSetting -ContainerType DistributedLogonTokenCache $DLTC
    Restart-Service -Name AppFabricCachingService

     THX.

    Kind Regards.

SharePoint 2013 scenarios to take in account

    Hello

With the General Availability of SharePoint 2013, I would like to share with you some points to have a healthy and supported environment.

The following scenarios are NOT supported

    • You install SharePoint Server 2013 in a workgroup.
    • You install SharePoint Server 2013 on a domain controller. This scenario is supported only for development configurations and not for production configurations.
    • You install SharePoint Server 2013 on Windows Web Server.
    • You install SharePoint Server 2013 on a virtual machine (VM) that uses Dynamic Memory. For more information about best practice configurations for SharePoint Server 2013 and virtual machines, go to the following Microsoft TechNet website:

Another strong point is the Contemporary UI that renders in HTML5 for mobile browsers, between others mobile views. So, the following mobile browsers detailed in TechNet are the supported ones:

            http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161353.aspx

Finally, please bear in mind that SPS 2013 is built on .NET 4.5 RTM in order to develop new .NET projects, although becasue of the new Apps development model there will be a lot of custom functionality relying on JavaScript.

    Saludos.

MSFT Research Debugger Canvas for Visual Studio 2010 Sp1 Ultimate.

    Hola.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/devlabs/debuggercanvas

Iba a escribir algo sobre como se usa pero hay una guía muy completa y chula que explica las principales funciones.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/devlabs/hh207442

    Espero que os haya gustado.

    Un saludo.
