    PowerShell 3.0, .NET 4.0 & SharePoint 2010

    Good Afternoon

Probably some of you ,due to any automatic update in your SharePoint 2010 servers, may notice that opening the SP 2010 Management Shell you are prompted with the following messages:

Error: "The local farm is not accessible. Cmdlets withFeatureDependencyId are not registered."

Moreover, it turns out executing cmdlets you are having next error:

"Microsoft SharePoint is not supported with versión 4.0.30319.17929 of the Microsoft .Net Runtime."

As all we may know SharePoint 2010 is bulit on .NET 3.5 that relies on .NET 2.0. So, as PowerShell 3.0 uses .NET 4.0 , the assemblies compiled on .NET 3.5 of our SharePoint 2010 are not working.

Then, in order to solve this issue temporally you should modify the shortcut of the start menú of SP 2010 Management Shell and forcé it to use PowerShell 2.0 instead of PowerShell 3.0.

    C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe-NoExit - versión 2.0 "& 'C:\Program archivos de programa\Archivos comunes\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\CONFIG\POWERSHELL\Registration\\sharepoint.ps1'"

For more information you can check the next KB

[Update] Operating Systems supported for SharePoint 2010

    Good morning.

As an update to the previous post Operating Systems supported for SharePoint 2010 installations.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/calvarro/archive/2011/10/26/sistemas-operativos-soportados-para-instalaciones-de-sharepoint-2010-y-requerimientos-m-237-nimos.aspx

    I would like to add:

               - SharePoint 2010 ,until next SP2, it's not supported on any Windows Server 2012 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2724471/en-us

               - Remember for Windows SBS 2011 installations, as in Windows SBS 2008, It's only supported the version that comes with the operatiing system, SharePoint Foundation 2010.

               - Windows 8 ,as in Windows 7, is only supported for code development installations with all the "Windows features" concerning .NET 3.5 activated and the App pools running in .NET 2.0 mode.

    Thanks

MS12-066 - Important Security Hotfix that applies to SharePoint 2010 & MOSS 2007

    Hello.

As you could notice this morning ,who will have WSUS activated on your servers, the security bulletin MS12-066  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/MS12-066 (KB 2741517) applies to SharePoint 2010 and MOSS 2007. That hotfix fix a vulnerability that allows elevation of privileges.

As the hotfix is critical, it will be installed automaticaly. So, after the installation, it's mandatory to execute PSCONFIG on every single server of the farm  => "psconfig –cmd upgrade –inplace b2b -wait" to complete the update process.

    Thank you.

    Kind Regards..

Life Cycle: WSS 3.0 & MOSS 2007 move to Extended Support.

    Hello

WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 products get into Extended Support from henceforth, as you can read in the following link.

    http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/default.aspx?sort=PN&alpha=SharePoint+Server+2007&Filter=FilterNO

Once a product moves into extended support, several changes take place:

    • Request to change product design and features (CDCR's)

    Customer can't ask for CDCR's.

    • Non-Security Fixes

Customer can ask and get Security fixes. However, ever, non-security hotfixes (RFH) will not be offered unless the customer purchase an Extended Hotfix Support Agreement witin next 90 days.

    • Complementary Support.

Support also ends for Enterprise Agreement custoemrs-

    • Paid Support.

    This support is still available.

For more info please check http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifepolicy

Reflection and/or reverse engineering of any Microsoft SharePoint version is not supported

    Hello.

    How are you?

Recently, I'm finding on support cases, custom code developed by our customers that are based on some internal SharePoint functionalitities obtained by reserve engineering and/or custom code calls to private/internal SharePoint methods/properties through System.Reflection (What's Reflection?)

Please, I would like to inform you that those practices are totally unsupported and it's a violation of the EULA  agreed during the installation of the product( Microsoft do not allow them) . For instance, you can watch the terms for SPS 2010

Besides the previous license terms violation, it could drive your environment to an unstable status or it could create side effects in your environment. Those properties/methods are intended to be used only by SharePoint source code. On the other hand, only the public API properties/methods in MSDN/ any SharePoint SDK version are the supported ones.

Eventually, you will be prompted to change your code to a supported one and the support case will be set as solved. If the new supported code is affected by the same misfunctionality the investigation will be carry on in a new support case.

    Thanks.

    Kind Regards.

SharePoint 2010, Time outs when creating an application pool.

    Hello

I faced an interesting case some time ago  that I would like to share with all of  you. One of our customers were expenriencing time outs when creating a web applciation. I collected a memory dump and we foung the following call stack:

    System.Threading.WaitHandle.WaitOne(Int64, Boolean)

    System.Diagnostics.Process.WaitForExit(Int32)

    Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPAdministrationServiceUtilities.RunCommand(System.String,System.String, System.TimeSpan)

    Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPProvisioningAssistant.RegisterAspNetClientFiles()

    Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPWebApplication.Provision()

    Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.ExtendVirtualServerPage.BtnSubmit_Click(System.Object,System.EventArgs)

    System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.OnClick(System.EventArgs)

    System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.RaisePostBackEvent(System.String)

    System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(System.Web.UI.IPostBackEventHandler,System.String)

    System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean, Boolean)

    System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequest(Boolean, Boolean)

    System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequest()

    System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequest(System.Web.HttpContext)

    ASP._admin_extendvs_aspx.ProcessRequest(System.Web.HttpContext)

    System.Web.HttpApplication+CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute()

    System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep, Boolean ByRef)

    System.Web.HttpApplication+PipelineStepManager.ResumeSteps(System.Exception)

    System.Web.HttpApplication.BeginProcessRequestNotification(System.Web.HttpContext, System.AsyncCallback)

    System.Web.HttpRuntime.ProcessRequestNotificationPrivate(System.Web.Hosting.IIS7WorkerRequest, System.Web.HttpContext)

    System.Web.Hosting.PipelineRuntime.ProcessRequestNotificationHelper(IntPtr,IntPtr, IntPtr, Int32)

    System.Web.Hosting.PipelineRuntime.ProcessRequestNotification(IntPtr, IntPtr, IntPtr, Int32)

With not doubts, when the issue happened the provision of the SPWEbApplication was waiting for an external event and because of the method Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPProvisioningAssistant.RegisterAspNetClientFiles() that appears on the top of the stack, it seemed that the culprit was IIS.

When we inspected the IIS manager. I found a big amount of application pools. As you probably know, SharePoint 2010 only supports10 application pools per WFE http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787.aspx#WebserverAppServer (FYI MOSS 2007 only supports 8 application pools per WFE)

However, we applied a simple work around until the customer will reduce the number of application pools. Directly we tuned the shut down time and the ping time to 300 seconds whne a enw IIS application pool will be created.

I hope this will help you.

    Kind Regards.

    Hola

La semana pasada he descubierto está aplicación de Microsoft para el Windows Phone 7.5 y me ha parecido muy interesante. Te permite generar modelos en 3d por medio de diferentes fotos tomadas con la cámara.

End of full support for SharePoint 2010 from RTM to SP1. Start limited support.

    Hello

Today, the support of SharePoint 2010 versions between RTM(14.0.4762.1000) and SP1 (14.0.6029.1000) is ended as you can double check in the following link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=14944

That is because the SP1 was released one year ago and ,as you may know, the Office Business Group Service Pack policy states "When a new service pack is released, Microsoft will provide 12 months of support for the previous service pack". More info in the following link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/#tab2

Then, the new support cases opened regarding issues between RTM and SP1 versions will be treated as "limited support". That means that you will face the following limitations:

    • Limited break/fix support incidents will be provided through Microsoft Customer Service and Support; and through Microsoft’s managed support offerings (such as Premier Support).
    • There will be no option to engage Microsoft’s product development resources, and technical workarounds may be limited or not possible.
    • If the support incident requires escalation to development for further guidance, requires a hotfix, or requires a security update, customers will be asked to upgrade to a supported service pack.

    For more info:

    http://support.microsoft.com/gp/newsplifecycle

So, please, I would like to recommend you to install at least SharePoint 2010 SP1 + any of the latest cumulative updates to keep your infraestructure fully supported. To install the SP1 you could follow the following link:

Change in behavior of SharePoint Server 2010 Output Cache after April 2012 CU

    Hello

You may remember that some time ago I published a web post regarding output cache stops working after installing MS11-110:

MOSS 2007 RTM to SP3 => The feature '2b1e4cbf-b5ba-48a4-926a-37100ad77dee' is not installed on the farm

    Good Afternoon.

Some days ago one of our customers was updating a MOSS 2007 environment from RTM to SP3, without applying any update between RTM and SP3. He opened a support case and reported the following issue.

    [SPWebTemplateSequence]
[ERROR] [15/05/2012 9:43:19]: Template OSRV#0: Exception thrown in activating
SPSite scoped features for SPSite with URL http://centraldamin/ssp/admin
(Id=21cc6e91-21f0-4393-b13a-f60bb5610c46). Skipping this SPSite for template upgrade.  Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: La característica '2b1e4cbf-b5ba-48a4-926a-37100ad77dee' no está instalada en este conjunto. No puede agregarse a este ámbito.

    en Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFeatureCollection.AddInternal(Guid featureId,
SPFeaturePropertyCollection properties, Boolean force, Boolean fMarkOnly)

    en Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFeatureCollection.Add(Guid featureId, Boolean force)

    en Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPWebTemplateSequence.ActivateSiteFeatures(List`1 lstsiteidToUpgrade, List`1& lstsiteidExceptions, List`1& lstwebinfoExceptions

Fortunately, the error is old known issue. It turns out that the Infrastructure update installs new features related to the Central Admin and to the Share Services Providers.

In order to solve it, it's need to install those feature using the command psconfig.exe -cmd installfeatures

Then the customer pointed us to a blog from a former Microsoft fellow talking in a further detail about that feature in subject:

    "2b1e4cbf-b5ba-48a4-926a-37100ad77dee', is basically the “S2SearchAdmin”"

So for more info I would like to share with all of you the blog that the customer pointed.:

I hope it will be useful for you.

    Thanks.

    Kind Regards.

Integration isssue: Dynamics CRM 2011 List Component and SharePoint 2010. Document List appears as a SharePoint 2010 iframe

    Hello

Today, I've been contacted by my fellow colleague from the CRM team, Fausto Cipriani. He wanted me to lend him a hand with a case related to integration between Dynamics CRM 2011 List Component and SharePoint 2010.

It turns out that one of his customers when trying to connect to one of the Documents connections he retrieves something like a SharePoint 2010 embeded page in an iframe instead of the view of the connector. For instance

We proceed to check the hot spots regarding how to set up the connector:

    • SharePoint Web Application de SharePoint doesn't set to Permissive.
    • Check if the connection has been validated.
    • Feature activated.

The previous points were right configured. The customer informed us that his administrator user was not having the issue but other administrators were having it, besides the some users.

Checking the url that the connector were connecting to, it failed when connecting to a child site. Furthermore when we were checking if the feature was activated, I noticed that the feature was a site collection feature and not a site feature (That means that the feature only appears on the top site instead on every site, appears in Manage Site Collection Feature y not in Manage Site features)

I thought to myself if any user that was failing had credential/rights on the top/parent site. We checked that it hadn't any right so we granted viewers only rights, the issue dissapeared and the documents view appeared properly. For instance (BTW, the user didn't have any document)

Then, if the connector it is configured against a child site that belongs to a site collection that has a hierarchy it's needed ,at least, to grant viewers only credentials to the user in the parent site that is belonging the feature.

    Potential explanation of the issue

My point of view about why this issue is hapenning is:

As the feature is a site collection feature, the connector custom code needs that the user logged has credentials on the parent site because if not the internal logic of the connector could be failing and it's not able to complete the action of listing the documents and set the right documents view

Unfortunately, this is only an assumption because I do not have any oficial statement from the CRM Product Group nor the SharePoint Product Group

Eventually, I would like to point you to the following urls about how to set up the connector and the official download page of the connector:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5283

    Thank you so much

    Kind Regards.
