uuuuuh it's a long wait for the Alpha of Windows 7...

the release is scheduled to October 28 at @ pdc...

but maybe we can get an internal beta before... it would be cool....

I'm looking forward to the new stuff we have added...

But frankly spoken, I have never ever had any problems with my Vista box... and the colleagues I've spoken to about it, has the same perception..
Let's see what the future brings... I just CAN'T wait!!! :)

  • I have never had any trouble with my Vista box, either.  A lot of people complain about it, but I haven't seen the problems (knock on wood).

  • Vista on a desktop with the 64bit is pretty nice... Runs great... (with 6gigs of memory)But the issue here is that most users are just internet users, and dont know how to fix bugs on the OS.. XP is much more user friendly, requires less of a hardware monster to run... Most home users dont want to spend 2 or 3 grand for a PC.. They buy celeron processors, 1 gb of memory and vista basic.. This is why there are all these issues...

(these people dont get why there 4 thousand dollar mac runs better then there 500 dollar vista box)

On a laptop, vista is royally terrible, i needed to fix registry issues to get the power management not to BSOD the machine when the battery got low..

I had to change HKEY registry files to allow me to run xp software nativly. It is not a great OS... And furhter more they changed every portion of the OS setup around, which when you speak to a end user who has been using 95-xp they dont know where to go to change things... desktop settings is now personalize and no longer properties... WHy would you do that?

Ultimately if 7 shares these Nightmare properties i am going to go to ubuntu.. Because honestly if i have to teach an entire company how to use a machine again, why am i gonna pay for the OS plus a 2grand PC replacement plus hours of teaching for everyone? Times are tough financially right now, and i cant justify going to ME version 2 aka vista. Keeping my fingers crossed 7 is back to normal Windows settings.

I run 2k8 server standard as my desktop OS, replaced vista ultimate with that...

    core 2 quad 2.4ghz

    6gb ddr2

    dual nvidea 512mb vid cards

    "Much much better"

Also run Vista Business on another

    core 2 duo 1.8ghz

    2gb ddr2

    256 shared vid mem

"Will be reformatted to XP sp3 this weekend"

I also run XP SP3 on a P3 600mhz 64mb of ram Dell C500 laptop... (tons of registry hacks)

This laptop is faster then the business machine and was 50 bucks...

  • Im in the market for a new laptop just now, and im really dont fancy getting one with Vista, maybe i just dont like change, but ive only had one experience of using vista and it took me ages to get a 2 min job done.
