Coming to Ontario cities in September, October, November, these 2-day interactive AppFests are where you’ll learn from top experts how to design, develop, deploy and support your apps on Windows 8, Windows Phone, and Windows Azure.
Now that everyone is done with vacations, the kids are back at daycare or school, it’s time to take all of those app ideas you’ve thought up and make them a reality. What better way to do that than to get together with fellow developers and spend a weekend learning and coding? But not just coding for the fun of coding, coding to actually start and finish building apps! Accordingly to the discussion we’ve been having in the Canadian Developer Connection group on LinkedIn, it looks like many of you want and/or need a little coding getaway! So let’s do it.
I had a chance to sit down with Atley Hunter, one of the visionaries behind the AppFest concept to learn more about what it is and what you can expect. Check it out.
As I mentioned in the video, if you like the idea and what to help bring an AppFest to your community, send me an email, a DM on Twitter or a message on LinkedIn and let me know you’re interested. We’ll work together to see how we can make it happen! I’d love to see AppFests start popping up all over the country!
The following is a guest post by Atley Hunter talking about AppFests:
The list of products that Microsoft is about to launch is long and juicy. The announcements are in the past, our appetites have been whetted and the floodgates are about to open. But you shouldn’t wait until after launch to get on board. Windows 8 and Windows Phone are in need of apps today. Why not have those apps include your apps?! Now, before the official release (of Windows 8), is the time to turn your app ideas into reality.
That’s the purpose of AppFests (Ontario AppFests are presented by ObjectSharp). There is plenty of content out there telling you how to build Windows 8 and Windows Phone apps. You can read articles, watch webcasts, or check out videos. That will get you started and part of the way there. But it’s not enough. You want to get your app published and earning you money. That’s where AppFests come in. AppFests are a combination of a seminar and a hands-on hackfest. There will be presentations on Windows 8 and Windows Phone, with a specific focus on what you need to know and do to get apps approved. We will be talking about how to use Windows Azure Mobile Services to give your users a seamless experience across platforms. Lastly, we’ll be talking about how to promote your app once it is in the marketplace.
But that’s less than half the story. The majority of the weekend will be about you coding, and us helping. The people helping you out are experts in development for Windows 8, Windows Phone, and Windows Azure. If you have questions, we’ll be there to answer them. If you want to talk best practices, we’ll be there to offer advice. If you want to know how best to monetize your applications? We can make suggestions. Your goal: submitting an app to the marketplace, and for that app to be successful. Our goal: To help make sure that that happens.
