Last week’s PDC has come and gone really fast.  For those that attended I hope you had a great time and learned a lot.  I’ve started to compile a list of key resources for ISVs based on the content that was release last week and I will continue to post to the blog with some additional more topic specific posts.

 

1.       Online video recordings - All of the keynotes and sessions from PDC were recorded live and are available on demand for viewing.  Using a Silverlight plug-in these sessions include a video of the speaker and the corresponding slides. 

 

2.       Windows Azure

a.       Our new cloud computing platform is here in a pre-Beta form. The Azure site has several resources available to help get your head wrapped around what’s included in our new platform.  As starting point, check out this whitepaper that provides an excellent overview of the platform.

 

3.       Windows 7 Unveiled

a.       The day two keynote started off with Steven Sinofsky showing the world Windows 7.  The improved UI is looking very slick and the keynote video does a great job of showing this off.

b.      To get a detailed look at the new desktop, a history lesson on several past versions of Windows desktops and to better understand how ISVs will be able to customize the desktop check out this session: Welcome to the Windows 7 Desktop

 

c.       The Windows Logo team is also looking for your feedback.  If you are interested in attained a “Certified for Windows 7” logo, check out the proposed program details here and be sure to send your feedback.  Check out my video interview to get more details on the Windows 7 logo program.

 

4.       Development Tools

a.       There were several development framework and tools related announcements at or just before the PDC.  ScottGu demoed some of the great feature enhancements in the platform and VS.  His keynote talk can be viewed in here, about 73 minutes in.

b.      The details of Visual Studio 10 are slowly surfacing and some initial much of the information can be found on Somasegar’s blog here.  One of the exciting announcements around VS10 is that it will be build using WPF!

 

5.       Office Companion Applications

a.       During the day two keynote, Takeshi Numoto announced that Microsoft Office 14 will include a web based version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.  The web based versions will be a subset in functionality of the full desktop applications and will work on a variety of different browsers.

d.      Anyone interested in learning more are encouraged to sign up for Microsoft Office Live Workspace here as these users will be one of the first to get a crack at any technology previews released down the road.

 

Now the above are just some quick highlights from PDC 2008.  There really was a mountain of information disclosed and different people are going to focus in on different areas.  I will be following up later this week with some additional details on specific technologies so check back often and be sure to review the recorded sessions.
