Subodh Sohoni, one of my MVPs and the trainer that creates the testing eLearning for Microsoft, has offered a new set of training for Testers using the Microsoft Test Tools…At $23 you would struggle to find a book for this price!
I have listed the training modules below but more information can be found at:
Objectives of the course: To provide awareness about how to manage the testing for a project using Microsoft Test Manager 2010, Test Case Work Item and in depth study of Manual Testing using the same tool i.e. Microsoft Test Manager 2010.This course will provide Demonstrations, Walkthroughs and Hands-on-Labs to cover all the topics under the subject.
Modules: Module 1: Introduction to Microsoft Test Manager 2010 In this module you will learn to open the Microsoft Test Manager 2010 which is part of the Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and create a container for tests i.e.Test Plan. Module 2: Create Test Case In this module you will learn to create an instance of Test Case work item type. You will also learn to provide properties to the test case, add steps and parameters to the same test case. Module 3: Create Shared Steps Shared steps work item is a way to reuse some of the steps that are written atone place in multiple test cases. This module will cover the topic of Shared Steps work item. Module 4: Link Requirement to Test Case Team Foundation Server 2010 implements the concept of hierarchical work items. In this module you will learn to link the requirement and test cases in a hierarchy with the relationship of Tested By - Tests. Module 5: Create Test Suites A team project may contain numerous test cases. These test cases can be managed in an efficient way and the testing will be done with certain direction if we group those test cases based upon certain logic. This module will provide you an insight into how the grouping of the test cases is done in multiple test suites. Module 6: Configurations and Configuration Variables In this module you will learn to create configuration variables and create a named configuration that can be assigned to a test plan so that the testers get a guidance regarding what configuration of the environment should be used during testing. Module 7: Custom Settings While the testing is being carried out, it is necessary to collect the data as well as to set an environment for the application under test to run having computers with specific roles. There are certain default settings for these but many a times we are required to create custom settings to collect non-default data. This module covers the process to create such non-default named setting. Module 8: Exploratory Testing and Exploratory Bug Exploratory testing is a standard way to find any bug that may not be covered by any test case. Microsoft Test Manager 2010 provides the facility to do exploratory testing and file a bug that may have recording only for the time when bug was visible. This module will cover the topic of how to create such Exploratory Testing and Exploratory Bug. Module 9: Run Test with Default Settings and File a Bug Microsoft Test Manager 2010 provides a utility to run the Manual Test. This utility called Test Runner shows the steps written in Test Case work item and allows you to execute those steps on the target application. It collects the diagnostic data while you execute the test. It also facilitates one click filing of bug. In this module, you will learn to run a test with default settings of the diagnostic data adaptors and then file a bug if you encounter any. Module 10: Run Test with Non-Default Settings and Rich Bug In this module you will learn to apply non-default settings while running the test and the concept of Rich Bug. Module 11: Test Result View After the execution of the test, results of the test are made available by Microsoft Test Manager 2010 and stored on the Team Foundation Server 2010. This module will give you an overview of how to view and read the test results. Module 12: Build Assignment and Recommended Tests In Microsoft Test Manager 2010 we can assign a build to the test plan. That gives an indication of the binaries to be used to the tester. When the build assignment changes, Microsoft Test Manager 2010 will prompt the tester with the recommended tests to avoid regression. In this module, you will learn to assign build, change build assignment and view the recommended tests. Module 13: Resolve Bug and Verify Bug Fix This module will cover the topic of how to set the state of the bug to the resolved state and how a tester can verify that the bug has been really fixed before setting the status to closed. It will also show you to run the test in Fast Forward Playback mode. Module 14: Queries and Reports In this module you will learn to fire existing queries and view reports as well as to create custom queries for knowing the status of testing and bugs.
