Christophe Fiessinger's Blog The latest news you need to know about Microsoft Project
Might be wondering why I care so much about this announcement: Windows Live Essentials 2011 available for download now ; well for many reasons, first I use Live Writer to publish all these blog posts to my blog, just love the ease of use, the offline capability, key plug-ins like the Twitter integration etc.… On a personal note, I’m a big fan of Photo Gallery, and enjoy the people tagging capability (will keep your CPU busy for a while!), not to mention the new Messenger with its revamped UI and Windows Live Mail I use for my personal accounts. And there is more that I use: Mesh, Parental Control…
Happy improved productivity and collaboration FREE of charge!
A common question I have been hearing from some of you, hopefully these documents will help answer the question: http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/en/us/product-info/compare.aspx
For instance for Analysis Services between the Enterprise and Standard edition, here is what you get:
Also read this whitepaper for further information: SQL Server 2008 R2 and SharePoint 2010 Products: Better Together (white paper) (SharePoint Server 2010) - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc990273.aspx
In you can you are wondering how to achieve the following Project Server 2010 workflow visualization or even better create your own, check out the recently published Workflow Visualization Web Part solution starter on MSDN Code Gallery to help you get started: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/P2010SolutionStarter
It basically leverages a SharePoint list containing a library of pictures to indicates which stage/phase you are currently at within your workflow. You can either deploy the web part that is on MSDN Code Gallery and follow the documented instructions to configure it or change its behavior by editing its source code. Happy workflow visualization!
FYI, thanks to John and Brian please find below links to the following four high quality videos on Channel 9 that showcase the out of the box integration of Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010 and Project Server released as part of the Community Technology Preview (CTP) last July:

In case you missed it, Steven Haden wrote this great white paper (and code samples): Hitchhiker’s Guide to Demand Management (white paper).
This 109 pages white paper is a must read for all of you that need to build a custom workflow in Project Server 2010: This document should contain all the required information to get started on implementing a full Demand Management solution with Microsoft Project Server 2010.

A great book to learn French and how to leverage Project 2010 desktop at the same time!
Merci Vincent!
Could not resist to point to these two posts published from Sonia and Brian which I’m sure you already are aware of thanks to your favorite RSS reader;
PS: and IE9 beta rocks, Windows Live Beta rocks and Halo Reach RTM rocks, another great week at Microsoft!
Quick reminder all BETA versions of Microsoft Project Professional/Standard 2010, Microsoft Project Server 2010, as well as SharePoint 2010 and Office 2010, will expire on October 31, 2010 as stated in the EULA (End-User Licensing Agreement); so time to get the RTM build before its too late!
As a reminder we do not support Project Server database upgrade from beta version to RTM: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee662104.aspx
Upgrading from the Project Server 2010 public Beta to the Project Server 2010 released version is explicitly blocked and not supported. This restriction applies to both the in-place and database-attach upgrade methods.
Following Jan’s announcement on both the Project Admin and Programmability blogs: Project 2010 at Microsoft TechED Europe 2010 Microsoft Project 2010 will be present at Tech.Ed Europe with great content, speakers, booth, and goodies so don’t miss it!
Still looking for reasons to attend, check out this Tech.Ed Europe 2010 countdown show on Channel 9 #TEE10 http://channel9.msdn.com/tags/TEE10/
Great new case study thanks to Joyce and Tad: http://www.microsoft.com/casestudies/Case_Study_Detail.aspx?CaseStudyID=4000008207 Great job Volvo and Teamsquare!
The Volvo Group is a leading supplier of commercial and consumer transport solutions and customer financial services. Volvo IT, which provides solutions to the Group to manage its projects, wanted to improve employee efficiency by extending current resource management, time reporting, portfolio management, and other project management processes. The Volvo Group implemented Microsoft Project Server 2010 and made customizations to adapt to various internal processes and software applications. The Group is using Project Server 2010 to improve capacity planning to build its long-term strengths. Because of the customizations and the rich but simple user interface of the Microsoft Project Web App technology, the Volvo Group has cut the time spent entering project data by 40 percent. It also has improved project visibility and control, and can now provide more transparent resource management.
