Last week's excellent FOWA/demobar event gave me the perfect opportunity to talk to a couple of folks I haven't seen in a while. Marcus Mac Innes has been a regular at the Dublin community events for years and his excellent news was that he had recently launched a new online photo sharing site called pix.ie. and it's not just the fact that it's built in .NET and named after the little people that's cool... here are couple of features of of pix.ie that you should check out that I particularly like:

  • the fact that you have a monthly upload limit of 500MB and no limits on numbers of photos or albums
  • nice privacy features like the fact that your family could add tags but not your friends
  • if you're from Ireland the speed from the Irish servers is much better than from the US
  • I managed to get a nice obvious username and didn't have to resort to something like dublinclare_2007

...And that's apart from the fact the whole thing is built on ASP.NET 2.0, WCF and SQL Server 2005! ;)

Marcus tells me he isn't finished yet - with many more features to come... pix.ie was launched initially for the Irish market - but within days of it launching, Marcus tells me members have joined from all over Europe, US, Russia, and China - in fact, he's even started getting feature requests in for additional support for Chinese characters. Congratulations Marcus - we'll be looking forward to seeing what comes next! :)
